Episode 244: How Energetic Clutter Blocks Your Energy (And How to Clear It)

In this episode, we explore how clearing physical space can open you to peace, alignment, and deeper spiritual connection. Because when your space is sacred, your soul can finally breathe.

What is going on in your house?

Just take a moment and really think about what I’m saying.

We carry energetic baggage inside our homes.

Do you have a closet filled with things you haven’t touched in years?

Are there mini dume boxes or big dume boxes scattered throughout your house?

🧹 Energetic Clutter Starts at Home

If you have ADHD, you know what I’m talking about.

If you don’t, dume boxes are where people toss whatever they’re working on — into baskets or boxes — just to keep it out of sight.

You can have them in random spots.

You can have them hidden.

You can have them everywhere, and some become the dreaded doom box, silently growing in size.

We all have energetic clutter.

Every single one of us.

For some, the link between ADHD and clutter is almost immediate — once a space gets messy, it feels nearly impossible to start cleaning again.

Do you have old papers you’ve been avoiding?

Old taxes you no longer need, but haven’t shredded yet?

Whatever clutter you have creates energetic clutter.

We have only so much space to hold, to receive through.

Our home is a container to receive.

Our home is an energetic protection vortex as well.

And if it has too much stuff, you can’t receive it properly.

So the question I have for you is: When was the last time you did a very deep cleaning of your house?

And I’m not talking about wiping down the cabinets or washing the window sills.

Those are great — yes, deep cleaning items like baseboards matter too.

But what I’m really talking about is deeper than that.

Closets.

Old makeup.

Old clothes.

Old toys.

Old furniture.

Things that are not being properly loved, used, cherished, or explored.

We live in a time of fast fashion and convenience.

It’s so easy to accumulate.

In the U.S., I can hop on Amazon and have something delivered to my door within hours.

And while that’s amazing, it can also become a quick dopamine hit.

If you want to truly shift your energy, start small and clear the clutter — even if it’s just one doom box at a time.

🛒 Conscious Consumption

I have a little rule — I often leave things in my cart to see if I truly want them.

Sometimes I even forget I left them there.

That pause helps me reflect.

Because these conveniences can create clutter.

And clutter can turn into over-consumption.

If you’re not being mindful about what’s coming into your home — and what’s not leaving — you forget to clear the clutter, and it impacts more than just space.

It affects your nervous system.

It affects your energy field.

You might notice it — or you might not — but it touches everyone in your household.

Even your pets.

If you feel stuck, clear the cutter in just one drawer and notice how much lighter you feel.

And while I want to honor that cleaning can be hard for some people due to life circumstances, I also want to gently encourage you.

Start small.

Take one project at a time.

Break it down into baby steps.

The easiest way to start? Choose one drawer and clear the clutter.

🍽 The Kitchen Is the Heartbeat

Let’s talk about your kitchen.

It is the heartbeat of your home.

You want it clean.

You want it clear of clutter.

If you have broken dishes, unused gadgets, or things you haven’t touched in a while — let them go.

Don’t hold on to what no longer serves.

You’re creating space for what’s new.

One of the things I personally love is washing the kitchen sink every day.

I read this in a book once — I’ll try to link it below when I remember the name.

She talked about always wearing shoes and starting your day by cleaning the sink.

That didn’t resonate for my mornings, but I do it in the evening — it works better for me that way.

There’s no one “right” way to clean your home.

But there is a beautiful invitation to create routines that support you.

Sometimes that means tackling that doom box sitting by the pantry before it turns into a black hole of forgotten spatulas and old spice jars.

🏡 Managing Your Household with Intention

Notice how I’m not saying “how to clean.”

It’s about how you manage your household.

The way you manage your space can either support or stress your nervous system.

It can uplift or suppress your spiritual evolution.

And I’ll be honest — I used to have big childhood triggers come up around cleaning.

So now, when I feel that, I pause.

I explore the trigger.

Because I don’t want to clean from a place of resentment.

I don’t want to carry old energy into a new rhythm.

Growing up, I was forced to clean a lot.

Not just “take your plate to the sink” — I mean daily deep chores with strict rules.

And if I didn’t do it right, I was punished.

While that gave me a strong work ethic, it also left me with cleaning-related trauma.

So now I try to make it fun.

I create routines that feel manageable and nurturing.

I show my daughter what it looks like to take care of her space with love.

🛍 Less is Sacred

It’s not just about space — it’s also about stuff.

We accumulate so much.

I remember when DVD players first came out — they were so expensive.

Now they’re obsolete.

Same with iPods — now we stream music from a phone.

Technology advances, and with that, things become more accessible.

But just because you can buy something doesn’t mean you should.

So when you’re purchasing something, ask yourself:

Is this a necessity?

Is this a desire rooted in alignment?

Or is this pressure-based, quick-hit consumption?

Just because a thought crosses your mind doesn’t mean it’s meant to be fulfilled.

It’s okay to pause.

To reflect.

To ask: Is this worth taking up space in my home?

Will I use this for a long time?

Or will it just break and get shoved in a drawer “to fix later”?

When in doubt, clear the clutter before adding anything new.

🌬 Space Creates Peace

When you keep your space energetically clean of clutter, you’re making a powerful declaration to the universe.

You’re saying, I have space for what I want.

You’re saying, My space brings me peace.

You’re saying, My space is sacred.

And when you tend to it with care, it becomes a spiritual practice.

Anxiety and stress are the thieves of joy.

Clutter contributes to that, and the clutter energy that comes with it can quietly drain your motivation without you even realizing.

So when I want to care for myself deeply, my guides often show me Buddha sweeping the floor.

It’s a reminder.

In Autobiography of a Yogi, Yogananda shared how his guru insisted they do their chores before anything else.

That always stuck with me.

Washing your dishes.

Sweeping the floor.

Decluttering the drawer.

It’s all spiritual.

It’s all self-love.

It’s all a way to clear the clutter from your energy and your mind.

✨ Your Invitation

Take care of yourself.

Take care of your home.

Make a list of what you want to declutter.

Tackle it one small project at a time.

Micro-movements.

Don’t overdo it.

This isn’t a race.

It’s about one small action each day that supports your deeper self.

And maybe you’ve mastered your physical space — but what about your digital space?

Your mental space?

Your emotional space?

Maybe there are old stories, old beliefs, or old energy you’re ready to let go of.

The process is the same: clear the clutter, in whatever form it appears, so your spirit has room to breathe.

Whether it’s a drawer, a closet, or a doom box full of memories, your space reflects your inner world.

Start decluttering.

Physically.

Mentally.

Emotionally.

Spiritually.

Hey, Amy Robeson here. Thank you for joining me on this podcast where we talk about spirituality, the awakening process, mental health, and so much more. Join me weekly to get your weekly dose of spirituality and medicine. I look forward to seeing you on the inside. Hello, and welcome to today’s episode. I’m so excited you are here. What is going on in your house? Just take a moment and really think about what I’m saying. We have energetic baggage in our house. Do you have a closet that there are things in there that you haven’t touched for years? Are there mini dume boxes or big dume boxes all around your house? If you have ADHD, you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t, it’s where people will put whatever it is that they’re working on inside of boxes or baskets, and they’re called dume boxes. You can have them in different spots of your house. You can have them in hidden spaces. You can have them just around your house. We have energetic clutter. Everybody has it. Do you have old papers that you haven’t gone through? Do you have old taxes that you haven’t gotten rid of that you don’t need to hold on to anymore?

Whatever clutter you have creates energetic clutter. We have only so much space to hold, to receive through. Our home is a container to receive. Our home is an energetic protection vortex as well. And if it has too much stuff, you can’t receive properly. So So the question that I have for you is, when was the last time you did a very deep cleaning of your house? And I’m not talking about wiping the kitchen cabinets down or washing the windows seals or wiping down the windows. Those are all deep cleaning items that you definitely want to do, like the baseboards, things like that. But what I’m talking about is closets, old Old makeup, old clothes, old toys, old furniture, things that are not being properly loved, used, cherished, explored. Because when we have all of these extra things, and we live in a space of fast fashion, we live in a space of convenience and quick items that we can receive. In the US, I can just go on Amazon and get something, sometimes within hours, delivered to my doorstep. It’s actually quite amazing that you can do that, but it also creates quick dopamine hits for some people as well.

Oftentimes, I have a rule where I’m like, I’ll get that, but I’ll leave it in my cart to see if I really want it. And this sometimes creates a habit where I thought I ordered it and I didn’t because I do like waiting before I order something. However, these conveniences can cause a lot of clutter. They can cause a lot of consumption as well. And if you’re overly consuming or not paying attention to what you’re bringing in your house and what you’re not taking away, this can create a lot of anxiety in your nervous system, in your energy field. This can be something that you’re extremely aware of or not. This can impact every single person in your house, including your pets. And I know that sometimes it’s really easy for people to say, well, it’s just clean, but sometimes people have certain conditions that that’s really hard for. And so I do want to encourage you wherever you’re at on your path that you take one project at a time, you take one to-do at a time, and you break it down into baby steps. So I want you to think about your house and your kitchen is the heart of your home.

It is the heartbeat. That is the thing that you want to have clean. You want it to be presentable. You want it to have no clutter. So if you have broken dishes or you have old items you’re not using anymore, you haven’t used in a really long time, they’re broken, you don’t find the use for them, stop holding on to them. Get rid of them. Because you’ll make space It’s a place for something new. One of the things that I personally love to do in my own life is to make sure I wash the kitchen sink every day. I read this in the book, and I’ll link the book, I can’t remember the name off the top of my head right this second, where she talks about making sure you always have your shoes on and making sure that you start your day washing your kitchen sink. I personally do not start my day washing my kitchen sink. I end my day washing my kitchen sink. Just easier for me to do it that way. And so there is no hard, fast rule on how to keep your house clean, but there is a beautiful invitation to have set routines on how you manage your household.

You notice how I’m not saying how you clean, it’s how you manage your household. Because the way you manage your household is also supporting you or not supporting your nervous system and your spiritual growth and your spiritual evolution. Oftentimes, if I think about cleaning, I have old childhood triggers come up for me. And so I will take a moment when I do have a trigger and explore that trigger so that I am not cleaning from a place of anger. I’m not cleaning from a place of resentment because that’s what I did when I was little. I was forced to clean and forced to clean a lot every single day. And I’m not talking about take your plate to the counter. I’m talking about we had very strict set rules in my household growing up. And if you didn’t do that right, you got punished. And while I appreciate the work ethic that this has brought me, it has caused a lot of triggers and a lot of trauma responses that I have around cleaning. And so for me, I like to find something that allows me to have fun while I’m cleaning, allows me to have set routines that allow me to keep things in a manageable way that feel really good to me.

And allows me to show my daughter and teach my daughter in a healthy way what taking care of her space looks like and what taking care of her stuff looks like. Because it’s not necessarily only about the space, it’s also about, I want to put this in quotations, stuff that you are accumulating. We live in a space where we can buy all sorts of different things. I remember back in the day when DVD players first came out and how expensive those were. Now, those are basically obsolete, right? I remember when the iPods came out and you transferred all your music, and now you have a phone that you can stream unlimited music at any time. Our technology is advancing, and the cool part is it also means things are a lot more affordable that used to not be affordable. Just because you can afford it doesn’t mean you need it. So let me say that slightly different. I want to encourage you to take a look at whenever you’re purchasing something, if you’re purchasing that because it is a necessity, it is a desire, and it is something that will actually support you. Or is it quick high pressure consumption.

Just because you have the thought about getting something also doesn’t mean that it’s an alignment. And so it’s really important to look at if something’s an alignment, to look at if it’s worth taking up space in your home. And also, I think it’s better to look for something that you can keep for quite some time that you will get many uses out of versus something out of convenience that’s going to break really quickly. Because What ends up happening, too, is when something breaks, I’ll get around to fixing that or whatever the excuse is. And sometimes it just ends up sitting in a drawer. And so we want to keep our space energetically clean of clutter because when When you do, you’re telling the universe that you have space for the things that you actually want. You’re also telling the universe, My space brings me peace. My space is my sanctuary. My space is my home. And when you are taking care of it in a way that feels good, it becomes a beautiful spiritual practice. Anxiety and stress is the thief of joy. So if you have a lot of clutter, it is stilling your joy, it is stilling your peace.

Anytime I’m wanting to take deep care of myself, and if I start going into story about cleaning, My guides always show me an image of Buddha happily sweeping the floor. Then I’m reminded of a story in the autobiography of a yogi, yoga Sachin Nanda, his guru, would always say, We have to do our chores before we can do anything else. And that has always stuck with me. And it’s such a lovely way of recognizing that doing your dishes, sweeping your floor, cleaning up your clutter is an act of self-love and a spiritual practice in it of itself. Take care of yourself. Take care of your home. Make a list of all the things you want to declutter and tackle it one at a time, making tiny micro projects throughout the year to clean it up. Don’t overdo it. You don’t have to overdo it. This isn’t a race. It’s the matter of doing one small thing every day that allows you to take care of yourself on a deeper, profound level and take living your spiritual life to the next level. And maybe you’ve already mastered this, but there’s other things that are cluttered, maybe a digital clutter.

Maybe you have old things that you’re needing to look at that aren’t necessarily stuff, but they’re old stories, old emotions, whatever it is. Start cleaning up the color. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. All right, my friend, I hope you enjoyed today’s episode. Please make sure you like and subscribe.
