In this deeply personal episode, I share the emotional experience of learning that my childhood elementary school was destroyed in a devastating 5-alarm fire. What surprised me most wasn’t just the loss of the building, but the buried grief, trauma, and memories that...
You might notice that you are blocking information, signs and synchronicities.
This can happen when you are gripping too tightly to something.
Especially when that something is not currently available as a conduit for your experience.
When we hold on too tightly to what we desire, we can unintentionally block the very experience we are trying to create by not letting go of control.
🌊 Surrendering When Life Feels Out of Control
When my husband told me the other day that we had to get something fixed, it didn’t faze me.
I even checked in with myself and asked, “Am I numb about this?”
And the truth is, I’m not numb.
I have completely surrendered to the situation.
Because it is out of my hands, letting go of control was the only logical step.
So how do you do this?
It is really important to get into your body.
Really, really get into your body.
And get into gratitude.
Surrender is something everybody knows is an important part of our spiritual evolution.
But sometimes when we are being invited to surrender, there is this frantic energy that happens.
There can be this fuzzy feeling of needing answers right now.
There can be a desire to experience something and wonder why it is not happening sooner.
Often, when we are invited to surrender, it is because we want the opposite of surrender.
We want control.
Or we are gripping tightly onto an idea, desire, or illusion of what something should be.
🫠 The Art of Melting Instead of Forcing
There is something important to understand when it comes to the art of spiritual surrender.
It is not just about letting go.
Yes, letting go is part of it.
But if you do not first loosen the grip, how are you going to manage letting go of control at all?
The invitation is to melt into the experience.
To mold into it.
That melting effect is what allows flow to come in.
If you have been gripping or desiring or even being guided to surrender, there is no point in being stressed or anxious about what is happening in your life.
Let me give you an example.
When I was pregnant, there was nothing I could do about my medical condition or what was happening.
The only thing I could control was keeping my stress down and letting go of control regarding my medical situation.
That did not mean I was giving up.
I was prioritizing nervous system regulation to stay present.
I still received a ton of bodywork.
I still talked to people about what was happening because it made me feel better.
But I was not playing the victim.
And I was not gripping onto wanting a different outcome.
Even though I wanted something different, that was not my story.
That was not the experience I was meant to have.
⛈️ Finding Gratitude in the Middle of Chaos
We recently had a really bad storm here in Nashville, Tennessee.
The amount of damage to our properties was a lot.
A ton.
I had to pay the HVAC people.
I had to pay plumbers.
I had to pay for tree removal.
It has been a lot of money to counteract what happened during that storm.
In the past, I would have been losing my ever-effing mind over something like this.
I would have been frantic.
Stressed.
Worried.
Filled with anxiety.
Because I hadn’t mastered letting go of control.
But this time, I surrendered to it.
I chose nervous system regulation instead of panic.
Does it suck?
Absolutely.
Do I want to spend the money?
No.
But on the flip side, I am grateful we had power at one of our houses.
I am grateful we did not have to spend a ton of money on Airbnbs.
I am grateful that even though our water heater was completely ruined, my husband knew to turn off the water.
He did not fully understand how to do that before.
Now he does.
We learned a lesson.
And when another storm comes, we will be prepared.
🧘 Regulating the Body to Loosen the Grip
Back in the day, I would have been stressing nonstop about something like this.
So again, I checked in and asked myself if I was numb.
And the answer was still no.
I have simply surrendered to what is out of my control.
I am not gripping onto possibilities that are not available in my current reality.
If you want to practice letting go of control, it is really important to get into your body.
Get into gratitude.
Permit yourself to notice everything that is going right in your life.
Notice everything you are grateful for.
This helps loosen the grip.
And when you loosen the grip, you create safety in your nervous system.
You are no longer hanging on for dear life.
Then comes the breath.
A lot of breath.
Breathing is key to nervous system regulation.
You might feel annoyed hearing someone tell you to breathe when you are stressed.
And that is completely valid.
But if you begin taking slow, deep inhales and exhales and remind yourself that you are safe, your nervous system will begin to regulate.
And you will start seeing things more clearly.
🔮 Releasing Stories and Illusions
When you are not surrendering, you might also be blocking guidance, synchronicities, and information.
You can block these signals by gripping too tightly to something that is not available for you to experience yet.
Using breath and mantras helps bring you back into your body and your heart.
It helps release that gripping sensation.
It also helps release the stories attached to your stress and anxiety.
Because often, there is a story underneath the fear.
I have had those stories too.
There are still times when things do not play out the way I want them to.
And I have to work through the story.
I have to separate from the illusion I am holding onto.
Stories keep illusions in place.
So notice the words you are using.
Notice how those words show up as stress or emotions in your body.
Because those words keep you locked into certain frequency patterns.
🧩 Rewriting Old Programming
Growing up, I was taught that if anything broke in the house, it was catastrophic.
It was treated like the end of the world.
My stepdad would get extremely angry when things broke.
As an adult, I have had to consciously change that reaction.
Because living in fight-or-flight is not fun.
Living in anger is not worth it.
When you are dysregulated, you cannot see other possibilities available to you.
That is where surrender and nervous system regulation become powerful.
Surrender opens you to new possibilities.
Just take that in for a moment.
You are opening yourself to peace in your body.
And that is a beautiful thing.
🎢 The Human Experience and Choosing the Ride
We are part of the school of the human experience.
It can be a tough school to be in.
But it is also one of the most gratifying schools because your soul evolves at a rapid pace here.
You chose to come here as a human.
You chose to experience these emotions.
The human experience is a very interesting roller coaster ride.
You can step off the ride at any time.
But stepping off can sometimes look like checking out of life.
It can look like severe depression.
It can look like rage, anger, numbness, or dissociation.
Working through those experiences allows you to get back onto the ride.
There will be moments in life when surrender is the only option.
It is a natural part of being human.
And I want to encourage you to learn the art of surrender.
Let go of the grip.
Create safety in your body.
Use a mantra.
Notice when you are gripping too tightly.
Permit yourself to see the story.
Permit yourself to step out of the illusion.
What are you being invited to surrender to right now?
Which of these steps feels easiest for you?
Which feels the hardest?

Full transcription of the episode:
You might notice that you’re actually blocking the signals, the synchronicities, the information, because you’re gripping too hard to something that is not available to be a conduit for you to experience what it is that you’re desiring to experience. When my husband told me the other day about us having to get that fixed, then it faz me. And I even checked in, Am I numb about this? I’m not numb. I’ve completely surrender to the situation. Because it’s out of my control. And so how can you do this? One, it’s really important to get into your body, really, really get into your body and to get into gratitude Surrender. Everybody knows it’s an important part of our spiritual evolution, but sometimes I find that when we are being invited to surrender, there’s this energy of franticness that happens or fuzziness of, I need to have this answer, or I need to experience this. I have the desire to experience, so why am I not getting that sooner? Whatever the invitation to surrender is, is sometimes really often to experience because we want the opposite of that. And that is either control or the image I’m getting from the guardians as I’m sharing this is this holding on, this gripping of an idea or desire or illusion of what that thing is.
And so what I want to talk to you about today is there is an important thing to do when it comes to the art of surrender, and that is not necessarily letting go, because yes, that is a part of it. But if you don’t even have the ability to loosen the grip, how are you going to let go? But it is the invitation to melt into it, mold into it, because this is where that melting effect allows flow to come in. And so if you’ve been gripping, if you’ve been desiring, if you’ve been being even told or being guided to surrender, there is no point of being stressed and anxious about things that are going on in your life. Let me give you a different example. When I was pregnant, there was nothing I could do about my medical condition and what was happening. The only thing I could possibly do is keep my stress down and surrender into the situation. It doesn’t mean I was giving up. I I still got a ton of bodywork done. I still talked to people about what was happening because it made me feel better, but I wasn’t playing victim, and I wasn’t gripping on to the fact that I wanted something different, and I did want something different, but I couldn’t have it.
That wasn’t my story, and that wasn’t the experience. I’m going to give you another example. We just had the really bad storm here in Nashville, Tennessee, and the amount of damage this storm has caused our properties is a lot. A ton. I’ve had to pay HVAC people. I’ve had to play pummers. I’ve had to pay for tree removal. It is a lot of money that I have to spend to counteract the storm that happened. Back in the day, I would be losing my ever-effing mind over this. I would be so frantic, so stressed, so worried, have a ton of anxiety over it, and I’ve just surrendered to it. Does it suck? Absolutely. Do I want to spend the money? No. But I will tell you on the flip side, I’m grateful that we had power at one of our houses. I’m grateful that we didn’t have to spend a ton of money on Airbnbs. I’m grateful that even though our water heater completely is trash, my husband was smart enough to turn off all of our water, but he didn’t understand how to do that part, and now he does. So learned a lesson. And when a storm comes again, we are prepared.
Back in the day, I would have been stressing and stressing and stressing and stressing and stressing Am I numb about this? Because not being fazed sometimes can be numb. No, I’m not numb. I’ve completely surrender to the situation because it’s out of my control, and I’m not going to grip on to a possibility that’s not even a possibility of my reality in the given moment. And so how can you do this? One, it’s really important to get into your body, really, really get into your body and to get into gratitude, because I think that if you give yourself permission to actually notice all the things that are going right in your life and all the things that you are grateful for, this helps to loosen the grip. And by loosening the grip, you create a safety in your nervous system that you’re not hanging on for dear life. Then comes the breath. A lot of breath. Breath is key to regulating the nervous system. You’re probably going to go, Amy, I I’m so stressed out, you telling me to breathe makes me angry, and that might be a possibility. But I’m telling you, if you just start doing some really nice deep inails and exhales, remind me yourself that you are safe, you are going to regulate your nervous system and see things a lot clearer.
Because when you’re not surrendering to the situation, you’re not surrendering to the fact that you might not be getting the guidance that you’re seeking or going as fast as you want to go, you might notice that you’re actually blocking the signals, the synchronicities, the information, because you’re gripping too hard to something that is not available to be a conduit for you to experience. Experience what it is that you’re desiring to experience. And so using the breath, using a mantra, will help you get into your body, into your heart, and let go of that gripping, gripping, gripping sensation. It also will let go of the story because sometimes when we’re so frantic and so anxious, there’s a story attached to it. And I’ve been there, I’ve done that. There’s a story. I know I have stories, too, for things that are not playing out the way that I want them to play out. And so I got to work on the story. I got to work on the separation of letting go of the illusion that I’m holding onto. And the story keeps the illusion in place. And so notice the words that you’re saying. Notice when you use those words, how they show up as stress in your body or what emotions they show up as in your body because they keep you in a certain frequency pattern.
And I was taught If anything ever breaks in your house, it is catastrophic. Like, this is the end of the world. My stepdad would get so mad and so angry about everything. And so it’s taken me as an adult to not make that my reaction because that was what I was taught as a child. And it is not a fun reaction because I don’t want to be in fight or flight. I don’t want to be that angry. It’s not worth it. At the end of the day, if you are dysregulating yourself, you cannot see the other possibilities that are available to you. And this is where the art of surrender comes in because surrendering allows you to open yourself up to other possibilities. Just take that in for a second. You’re opening yourself up to other possibilities. You’re getting to feel peace in your body. And I think that’s a wonderful thing. We’re a part of the school. The human experience is a tough school to be in. It’s one of the most gratifying schools to be in because your soul gets to evolve at a much more rapid or pace than other types of experiences that you maybe can put yourself through as a soul, and you chose to come in as a human.
You wanted to have this experience. You wanted to experience these emotions. And the human experience gets to be a very interesting roller coaster ride. You can get off the ride at any time. I wouldn’t recommend getting off the ride unless your soul is ready to leave. And let me just clarify what I mean by that. You can get off the ride and check out and go into a severe depression and not participate in life. You can get off the ride and get into a story where you get into a cycle of rage, anger, numbness, disassociation. Those experiences, when you work through them, allow you to get back onto the ride. So depending on what you want to do as a soul, there are going to be moments in life where you have to surrender. There’s no other choice about it. It is a part of the human experience, and I want to encourage you to learn the art of it. So let go of the grip. Get safe in your body. Use a mantra. Notice when you’re gripping too hard. Give yourself permission to notice the story. Give yourself permission to get out of the illusion.
All right, my friend, let me know what you’re surrendering to. I’d love to hear from you. What part of these steps feel the easiest or the hardest. I’d also love to know that. All right, my friend, I will see you soon. Please like and subscribe. Bye.
